Meeting of the working group on the development of a joint traveling exhibition “heritage of the silk road”

03.12.2019, the second meeting of the working group on the development of a joint traveling exhibition in honor of the Silk Road cultural heritage took place at the National museum of Tajikistan.

This is the second meeting of the working group on the development of a joint traveling exhibition, which brings together representatives of the national museums of the participating countries and experts from the International Committee for exhibitions and exchanges of ICOM, the Department of intercultural and regional studies of the University of Copenhagen and UNESCO. The joint exhibition will be organized as part of the three-year project of the European Union and UNESCO “Silk Road heritage corridors in Afghanistan, Central Asia and Iran - international aspects of the European Year of cultural heritage”. The exhibition dedicated to joint cultural heritage is aimed at raising awareness about the project, introducing the rich heritage of the participating countries, promoting and exchanging practices on the Silk Road and understanding the Silk Road heritage as a bridge between East and West. After the project is completed in 2021, the exhibition will be shown in museum of the participating countries or Europe and will be available in each participating country.

The purpose of the event is the selection and discussion of works presented at the exhibition, the identification of specific steps in the preparation of the exhibition, in which the national museums of Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will participate. The meeting of the working group is being held at the National museum of Tajikistan with the support of the National commission of the Republic of Tajikistan for UNESCO.

It is worth noting that the first meeting of the working group was held in June 2019 in the city of Nur-Sultan (Republic of Kazakhstan), in which presumptive themes, scope and its features, as well as possible works that were considered part of this exhibition. “Silk Road heritage corridors in Afghanistan, Central Asia and Iran - international aspects of the European Year of cultural heritage” aims to improve the living standards of regional societies, as well as youth and women, by creating favorable conditions for incomes and organizing jobs and will show a crucial role in sustainable development culture.
